Zinc deficiency is a growing problem throughout the World. However, zinc deficiency has been seen to increase in occurrence as people age. A decrease in cognitive ability is often attributed to aging. It may be that our cognitive ability declines, in many cases, due to a general decreased intake of food as we age – particularly meat and other sources of protein, which are high in zinc content. Zinc deficiency is a factor behind many chronic diseases that increase in people as they age: cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory problems, and so on.
